Colton Receives Hornaday Award

May 6, 2016 By eswau.net

Congratulations to our brother Thomas Colton for receiving the William T. Hornaday Award from the Boy Scouts of colton-inset-photoAmerica. The William T. Hornaday Award is presented by the BSA for service in conservation and ecology and has
been referred to as “an Olympic Medal bestowed by the Earth”.

The award was created in 1914 by Dr. William T. Hornaday, director of the New York Zoological Park and founder of the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. It was created to encourage learning about natural resource conservation and the environment, teach sound stewardship of the natural resources and the environment, and recognize those who are outstanding in this field.

The award is rare. Only around 1,100 Hornaday awards have been given in the past 100 years. It takes a substantial commitment of time and energy to earn the award. Congratulations to Thomas for receiving this award and to his commitment to outdoor ethics.

2016 Vigil Honor Nominations

March 29, 2016 By eswau.net

vigil-order-nominations
The Vigil Honor is unique, it is the highest honor that an Order of the Arrow Lodge can bestow on its members. The Vigil honor is not earned; it is given to honor someone for going above and beyond the description of his or her position in scouting, for the greater good the lodge and Scouting.

Under no circumstances should tenure in Scouting or the Order of the Arrow be considered as reason enough for a Vigil Honor recommendation.

To be eligible for consideration for the Vigil Honor, an Arrowman must have been a Brotherhood member for at least two years at the time of the Lodge Vigil selection meeting; and a member in good standing with the Piedmont Council, BSA and Eswau Huppeday Lodge #560 (registered with dues paid).

All brothers in the list below are verified eligible for nomination of the Vigil Honor. They are grouped by Chapter. Both adults and youth can be nominated.

To nominate a brother, use the online nomination form.

Or download and submit the PDF form:  2016 Vigil Honor Nomination Form
