James (Jimmy) Arthurs was a long-time scouter in the Piedmont Council impacting many youth and adults through his volunteerism at the local unit, district and council levels. A life long resident of Mooresville, NC, Jimmy was an Eagle Scout and a recipient of the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, Founder’s Award amongst other things, and was a Vigil Honor Member of the Eswau Huppeday Lodge where he served as the Lodge Treasurer Advisor for decades.
The James C. Arthurs Memorial Scouting Scholarship Fund is the project of former Lodge Chiefs of Eswau Huppeday Lodge who were lucky enough to be mentored by Jimmy and to call him a friend. Because he had such an impact individually and collectively, the brain-trust of this fund wanted to ensure that his memory/legacy continues to live on. Jimmy was an avid attender of many Scouting events; especially the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC). Because NOAC is a special event that can be transformational and beneficial to all attendees, especially the youth, it was decided that the fund would go to pay the NOAC registration fee for Scouts who will be 17 or younger at the time of the NOAC.
This fund is funded purely by the donations of its benefactors with no tax advantages. That’s how much Jimmy meant to its benefactors. It is meant to be “needs based” meaning the Scout would not be able to go without the funds that this fund provides. Additionally, there is an application’s process that is outlined in a subsequent section of this form.
